How to Create a
Confidential Resume

To protect your client's identity and privacy, make the following changes to the resume text:

Client Name

Replace your client's name with a generic term or job title such as:

  • Confidential Candidate
  • eSolutions Marketing Candidate
  • eSolutions Expert
  • Confidential Candidate / CEO

NOTE: When you set up the CareerFolio, if you select the option "confidential," the CareerFolio will have a URL such as:

www.careerfolio.com/anonymous164

Top

eMail Address

If your client's email address is based on their name (i.e., johnfrank@abc.com), they should set up a new email account that is "nondescript."

Top

Current Employer

Remove the name and location of your client's current employer and replace it with a general company description:
  • High tech manufacturing firm
  • Fortune 500 company
  • International sales consulting agency
  • Confidential employer

Job Title

Replace unique, industry-specific, or product-specific job titles with more generic (but equivalent) job titles.

For example, use Quality Assurance Manager instead of Manager of Widget Systems Quality Assurance.

Industry-specific Keywords

Eliminate these kinds of keywords and terms from the resume:
  • Specific industries, markets, products
  • Client names, company names
  • Industry-specific jargon, technologies, certifications

In High Stakes Job Searches

  • Remove graduation and / or college attendance dates from the resume's "Education" section. When motivated, employers and recruiters can track down identities through graduation dates and academic records.
  • Remove specific cities, locations, and geographical criteria from job entries and replace with generic terms.
